You will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Define clear objectives and measurable KPIs for the Technical teams, ensuring alignment with wider business goals and a continuous drive to improve site standards and GMP.
- Lead the development and progression of the Technical team in line with the evolving talent needs of both the site and the broader technical function.
- Ensure all team members are appropriately trained, coached, and supported to perform competently and confidently within their roles.
- Play an active leadership role within the Senior Management Team, contributing to the achievement of site objectives, financial targets, and ongoing improvement initiatives.
- Ensure full compliance with legislation concerning the welfare of live animals during catching, collection, and slaughter, maintaining the highest standards of care and legal adherence.
- Maintain and enhance the Quality Management System to safeguard food safety, ensure legal compliance, and meet or exceed customer specifications and requirements.
- Champion and embed a strong food safety culture, supporting the wider quality vision through engagement and technical leadership.
- Provide technical oversight and regular auditing across operations to ensure customer standards and expectations are consistently met.
- Analyse trends in non-conformance data to develop and implement long-term corrective action plans aimed at driving improvement and preventing recurrence.
- Review and maintain accurate specifications for all finished products, ingredients, and packaging, ensuring they are up to date and fully aligned with customer requirements.
- Oversee the investigation of technical complaints, ensuring root causes are identified, corrective actions are implemented, and findings are communicated effectively both internally and externally.
- Ensure environmental compliance by implementing appropriate procedures, and support the wider leadership team in understanding and fulfilling all related responsibilities.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring positive engagement during site visits and technical reviews.
- Manage external service providers effectively, including hygiene contractors, pest control, laundry services, and laboratories, ensuring services are delivered to expected standards.
What's required?
- Proven experience working within a food manufacturing or similarly fast-paced environment at Technical Manager level, demonstrating the ability to manage complexity and drive high standards.
- Brings a minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in managing technical matters, with strong working knowledge across food safety, quality assurance, and compliance within a manufacturing setting.
- Holds a degree or higher-level qualification in a food-related discipline, with a commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with industry best practices.
- Demonstrates strong leadership capabilities, with experience in building, developing, and engaging teams to achieve shared goals and continuous improvement.
- A proactive and passionate advocate for food safety and quality, with a hands-on approach to maintaining and enhancing standards.
- Experienced in working with BRC standards and has a successful track record of preparing for and leading external audits.
- Organised and self-motivated, with the ability to manage a varied workload, work proactively, and deliver tangible results for both personal development and wider team and site success.
- Adapts well in dynamic environments; able to prioritise effectively, communicate clearly, and build strong working relationships across all levels of the business.
