You will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Actively contribute to the daily operations of the technical department by supporting routine activities, addressing general factory-related queries, and assisting in timely decision-making and effective problem-solving across departments.
- Take ownership of the complaints management process, including liaising with customers, suppliers, and service providers to investigate issues thoroughly, determine the root cause, and implement appropriate corrective actions. This may include occasional visits to customer and supplier sites to support investigations and relationship management.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with BRC (British Retail Consortium) standards by maintaining and updating relevant documentation, conducting regular reviews, and supporting audit preparation and follow-up actions as required.
- Coordinate and prepare professional PowerPoint presentations for internal and external use, ensuring content is accurate, engaging, and tailored to the intended audience.
- Collect and consolidate information from multiple sources, inputting and managing data in Excel spreadsheets for reporting, analysis, or record-keeping purposes. This includes ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
- Carry out a range of general administrative duties to support the smooth running of the department, including document control, filing, correspondence, and assisting with the organisation of meetings and events.
What's required?
- Possesses 3–4 years of relevant experience in a similar technical role within the food manufacturing industry, ideally with exposure to high care or high-risk products such as meat.
- Holds a basic working knowledge of BRC standards, with experience supporting or conducting internal and factory audits to ensure ongoing compliance and quality control.
- Demonstrates experience in handling customer and supplier complaints, including conducting root cause analysis and implementing effective corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Familiar with factory process controls and has hands-on experience working in food processing environments, particularly within chilled or short shelf-life product categories.
- Understands the principles of food safety, quality, and legality, with prior involvement in or awareness of HACCP systems and their practical application in a production setting.
- Has a foundational understanding of supply chain operations, as well as basic knowledge of nutrition, microbiology, and product specifications, supporting well-rounded technical awareness.
- Able to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, meeting tight deadlines while remaining flexible and responsive to last-minute changes in operational priorities.
- Shows strong analytical capabilities, supported by intermediate or above-level Excel skills, and is confident in working with data to support reporting, trending, and decision-making.
- Displays a proactive attitude and the ability to work independently using their own initiative, while also being a collaborative team player in a small, close-knit team setting.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across departments and work with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Brings solid organisational and administrative skills, maintaining accurate records and contributing to the smooth operation of the technical function.
- Approaches tasks with a flexible and adaptable mindset, willing to learn, take on new challenges, and develop professionally within the role.
- Customer-focused, with an understanding of service expectations and a commitment to maintaining high standards in all areas of technical delivery.
- Additional language skills would be advantageous, particularly in supporting communication with international suppliers or customers.
