Are you a laboratory-based product developer with a passion for flavour innovation and hands-on formulation?

This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative R&D team developing both new and existing products across a diverse flavour portfolio. Based in London, you'll work on a range of exciting applications including syrups, sweeteners, beverage products, coffee syrups, and dessert sauces. This role would suit a food scientist who enjoys combining technical formulation expertise with sensory evaluation and cross-functional project work, helping to bring innovative products to market.

You will be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Managing multiple development projects and laboratory activities to deliver against agreed timelines
• Leading formulation and product development activities across a range of flavour and beverage applications
• Developing, optimising, and reformulating products to meet customer, commercial, and manufacturing requirements
• Preparing and evaluating bench samples to support internal reviews and customer projects
• Conducting sensory and organoleptic assessments and translating findings into development recommendations
• Providing flavour and application expertise to support innovation and product performance
• Working closely with marketing, quality, operations, procurement, and finance teams to deliver technical solutions
• Supporting customer-facing activities, including sample reviews, tastings, and technical discussions
• Collaborating with suppliers to evaluate ingredients and identify opportunities for innovation
• Supporting manufacturing trials, scale-up activities, and troubleshooting product-related issues
• Conducting shelf-life and stability studies and providing technical recommendations based on findings
• Maintaining accurate technical documentation, formulation records, and trial reports
• Working in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice, GMP, food safety, and health and safety requirements
• Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and embracing new digital tools and technologies within product development

What's required?

• A degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline
• Experience in product development, formulation, and sensory evaluation within the food and beverage industry
• Hands-on laboratory experience, including sample preparation, stability testing, and sensory analysis
• Knowledge of flavour systems, sweeteners, syrups, beverages, or similar product categories would be advantageous
• Strong understanding of HACCP principles, food manufacturing, and quality systems
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach
• Confidence working with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders
• Excellent computer literacy and familiarity with data analysis and project management tools
• Experience with systems such as SAP PLM, Genesis, Compusense, or similar would be beneficial
• Project Management or Continuous Improvement qualifications would be advantageous
