We’re hiring an Senior NPD Technologist to join our client’s innovative food manufacturing team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with strong potential to be extended or made permanent.
This is an excellent opportunity to work across products supplied to all major UK retailers, offering hands-on involvement in fast-paced, customer-led development projects. With at least a placement year and further experience under your belt, you’ll be ready to take ownership of projects and contribute to the continuous improvement of the NPD process.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering new product launches from concept through to execution, collaborating with cross-functional teams and key customer contacts. You will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Leading the development of new products from concept through to launch, ensuring alignment with briefs, timelines, cost targets, and quality standards.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders including account managers, project managers, manufacturing, and technical teams.
- Seeking creative solutions within current manufacturing capabilities, working closely with operations to ensure feasibility.
- Managing both NPD (New Product Development) and EPD (Existing Product Development) projects.
- Supporting and maintaining strong customer relationships during site visits alongside Technical Account Managers.
- Running factory trials, pre-productions, and supporting first production runs.
- Keeping all relevant databases (e.g. SAP, costings) and documentation accurate and up to date.
- Conducting shelf-life testing and travel tests.
- Creating and maintaining QAS (Quality Attribute Specification) documentation.
- Assisting in the preparation of customer presentations and sample submissions.
- Jointly managing customer visits with Technical Account Managers and National Account Managers.
- Understanding cost implications of recipe and process changes and clearly communicating these impacts.
What’s required?
- Degree or HND in Food Science, Bakery Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in product development, ideally within bakery or similar categories and with retail customer exposure.
- Proven project management and organisational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong interest in food and a passion for bakery and cake products.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and SAP.
