You will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Reporting into the Head of Technical and as the manager of the Compliance team, the key purpose of this role is to ensure the compliance of products to both legal and customer expectations, and the provision of timely and accurate data to customers/3rd party organisations to support this.
  • This will be achieved by: Ensuring compliance (of products, packaging, labels and supporting documentation) across all sites with current and emerging food, labelling and transport legislation in the UK, EU and other geographies
  • Determining and/or validating existing regulatory information including legal ingredient declarations, allergen information, nutritional, analytical tolerances, suitability based on product composition in our online formulation repositories.
  • Managing the team to ensure specifications, safety data sheets and product labels are issued accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Accurately and timely provision of customer-specified documents, taking into account company IP protection guidelines.
  • Ensuring compliance with the requirements of third party certifying bodies.
  • Certifying audits (Kosher, Halal, Fair Trade and Soil Association etc.) are passed with no major non-conformities Data required for specifications, legal compliance and other purposes is suitably stored, kept up to date and can be easily accessed.
  • Preventing any successful challenge to our products, packaging, labels and documentation from a Regulatory
  • New raw materials swiftly approved according to KPIs.
  • Directly liaising with suppliers where applicable to source information on material supplied.
  • Manage the above both via assignment to other team members and direct ownership. Completion of other appropriate tasks, as necessary, to support the Business

What's required?

  • Degree in Food Science / Science, or related subject
  • Expert working knowledge of relevant European Food Legislation
  • 3+ years experience working in a (Senior) Specifications Technologist role (or similar) within the food ingredients industry, providing technical information to customers
  • Effective communicator with all stakeholders, both internally and externally
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Detailed knowledge of expectations of customer specifications/ online portals and their completion. Desirable
  • Previous experience of working in the flavour industry
  • Knowledge/experience of using internal specifications systems/databases
