We're hiring an NPD Technologist to join our client’s innovative food manufacturing team on a 12-month fixed-term contract, with strong potential to be extended or made permanent.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work with products supplied to all major UK retailers, giving you exposure to fast-paced, customer-driven development. Whether you've recently completed a placement or already have some industry experience, this role is open to all levels beyond placement year.
You’ll play a key part in bringing new products to market, working cross-functionally to support concept development through to launch. If you're eager to grow, gain experience with top-tier customers, and contribute to exciting NPD projects, this could be the role for you.
You will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Develop new products from concept through to launch, in line with approved briefs, agreed timelines, cost targets, and quality standards.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders such as account managers, project managers, manufacturing, and technical teams to ensure cross-functional engagement.
- Seek creative process solutions within existing manufacturing capabilities, collaborating closely with manufacturing and operational teams.
- Manage NPD (New Product Development) and EPD (Existing Product Development) projects from concept to successful launch.
- Collaborate with Technical Account Managers to develop innovative products and maintain strong customer relationships during site visits.
- Run factory trials, pre-productions, and support during first production runs.
- Ensure all relevant databases (e.g. SAP, costings) and administration are accurate, up to date, and complete.
- Responsible for conducting shelf-life testing and travel tests.
- Create QAS (Quality Attribute Specification) documents.
- Support Technical Account Managers in customer presentation preparation, including making samples, product costings, and providing information for sample submission forms.
- Jointly manage customer visits alongside Technical Account Managers and National Account Managers.
- Understand how recipe and process changes impact costs and effectively communicate these implications.

What's required?
- Degree level or HND qualification, preferably in Food Science, Bakery Science, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in product development within bakery or similar product categories, ideally with experience working with retail customers.
- Strong project management skills with excellent planning, organisational, and communication abilities.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, effectively managing multiple tasks and meeting strict deadlines.
- Genuine passion for food, particularly bakery and cake-related products.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and SAP systems.
