You will be responsible for, but not limited to:
- Maintaining customer specification databases, ensuring all product and process data is accurate and up to date
- Supporting formula/BOM approvals and barcode set-up to international standards
- Ensuring finished products comply with relevant food legislation and market regulations
- Attending customer meetings and factory trials to collect product data and define specification tolerances
- Reviewing raw material and packaging specifications to meet customer guidelines, legislation, and codes of practice
- Creating, updating, and maintaining product manuals, QAS documentation, and artwork approvals
- Coordinating product samples for testing, ensuring compliance with nutritional, microbiological, and environmental requirements
- Conducting benchmarking and quality panel sessions to monitor product performance
- Supporting the launch of new products, including labelling, testing, and equipment programme set-up
- Reviewing specifications regularly to maintain accuracy and compliance with customer standards
- Assisting with BRC and other site audits, as well as technical projects as required
What’s required?
Essential:
- Experience in a Specifications Technologist role within the food manufacturing industry
- Knowledge of BRC and UK retailer technical standards
- Proficiency with specification/recipe database systems (e.g., Hamilton Grant, Oracle, TraceOne, M&S Find, Tesco TQC, ASDA Hive)
- Strong understanding of UK & EU labelling regulations (FIR) and food safety requirements
- Experience with GS1 barcode systems and retail artwork approvals
- HACCP Level 3 and knowledge of allergen labelling and control procedures
- Appreciation of ingredient functionality
Desirable:
- Degree/HND in Food Science or related discipline
- Strong numerical, communication, and influencing skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office packages
- Experience with Bill of Material/formula input
- Baking industry experience and label translation for EU markets
